The Driver (Call for CVs) will have responsibilities that include:

    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    A. Transportation & Driving Operations:

    • Convey VDO personnel, official guests, and authorized passengers safely to designated locations.
    • Execute approved official travel within Kabul and to provincial project sites as authorized.
    • Adhere strictly to authorized travel routes, movement protocols, and security directives.
    • Ensure all vehicle occupants fasten seatbelts and observe required safety procedures.
    • Comply with local traffic regulations, speed limits, and internal safe-driving standards.
    • Avoid mobile phone usage while operating the vehicle, except via authorized hands-free devices where permitted.
    • Never operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, medications, or substances that impair driving performance.
    • Refrain from transporting unauthorized individuals or non-organizational items in VDO vehicles.
    • Remain present at designated duty locations during assignment hours unless otherwise directed.

    B. Vehicle Inspection & Operational Maintenance:

    • Perform routine daily checks on the vehicle prior to departure.
    • Inspect fuel levels, engine oil, coolant, tires, brakes, lights, battery condition, mirrors, and safety belts.
    • Confirm the presence of essential emergency equipment, including a functional spare tire, tool kit, first-aid box, and fire extinguisher.
    • Report mechanical faults, body damage, or operational irregularities immediately.
    • Coordinate authorized servicing and routine maintenance through the designated Operations/Admin department.
    • Keep the assigned vehicle thoroughly clean, well-maintained, and mechanically sound.
    • Avoid executing unauthorized vehicle repairs or purchasing spare parts without prior approval.

    C. Logbook & Vehicle Documentation:

    • Maintain accurate, up-to-date logbook entries for every official trip.
    • Log dates, travel destinations, departure and arrival times, starting and ending mileage, and required trip details.
    • Keep systematic fuel consumption records and submit corresponding receipts as mandated.
    • Track vehicle registration, insurance validity, and related documentation, alerting supervisors prior to expiration dates.
    • Submit all driving logs and vehicle records within established timelines.
    • Ensure all essential vehicle documentation is stored securely and readily accessible during travel.

    D. Safety & Security Protocols:

    • Comply fully with VDO Security Protocols, Staff Movement SOPs, and vehicle safety guidelines.
    • Verify security advisories and route permissions prior to initiating journeys.
    • Maintain regular communication check-ins during field trips as prescribed by organizational procedures.
    • Maintain approved travel routes without deviation, unless required by immediate safety concerns.
    • Escalation of traffic accidents, security hazards, road closures, or breakdowns must occur immediately.
    • Follow all directives issued by the Security Officer and authorized management regarding travel plans.
    • Park assigned vehicles exclusively in secure, authorized parking areas.

    E. Emergency & Accident Management In the event of an accident or emergency, the Driver must:

    • Prioritize passenger safety and secure immediate medical aid if needed;
    • Notify the designated VDO security focal point as soon as safely feasible;
    • Adhere strictly to VDO incident management and reporting procedures;
    • Refrain from making unauthorized admissions of liability or financial commitments on behalf of VDO;
    • Safeguard the vehicle and organizational belongings if safe to do so; and
    • Complete all mandatory post-incident documentation promptly.

    F. Professional Conduct & Confidentiality:

    • Interacted with all passengers in a polite, respectful, and professional manner.
    • Safeguard sensitive operational details, including travel itineraries, guest lists, meeting details, and field locations.
    • Maintain respectful and appropriate conduct toward female staff, community members, visitors, and international delegates.
    • Avoid discussing confidential organizational matters with external or unauthorized individuals.
    • Fully comply with VDO’s Code of Conduct, Safeguarding standards, and PSEAH policies.
    • Never utilize VDO vehicles for personal matters without written managerial permission.
    • Never request or accept unauthorized fees, tips, or gratuities from passengers or external stakeholders.

    G. Operational Support When not actively driving, the Driver may provide general operational assistance, including:

    • Transporting and delivering official correspondence and documents;
    • Collecting and moving authorized office materials and equipment;
    • Assisting with the loading and unloading of program supplies;
    • Supporting basic administrative tasks related to fleet management; and
    • Executing additional reasonable tasks assigned by the supervisor aligned with the position.

Job Requirment

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Educational Background: High school completion is preferred; relevant practical experience is strictly mandatory.
    • Licensing: Possession of a valid driving license appropriate for the specific vehicle class.
    • Professional Background: Prior employment as a driver with an NGO, UN agency, international entity, or equivalent institution is required.
    • Geographical Knowledge: Thorough familiarity with local road networks and primary transport routes within the operational station and target provinces.
    • Technical Aptitude: Basic understanding of mechanical troubleshooting and routine vehicle upkeep.
    • Administrative Skills: Ability to accurately maintain vehicle travel logs and complete basic operational forms.
    • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in Dari and/or Pashto; working knowledge of English communication is preferred.
    • Travel Readiness: Willingness and capability to execute field trips across project locations when necessary.
