War Child was founded in 1993 by filmmakers David Wilson and Bill Leeson, along with social entrepreneur Willemijn Verloop, who were horrified by the violence and ethnic cleansing they witnessed in Bosnia. Thirty years ago, children in conflict zones had no access to professional psychological support – no charity was set up to address this need. That all changed in 1993, when filmmakers David Wilson, Bill Leeson, and social entrepreneur Willemijn Verloop travelled to the former Yugoslavia and saw first-hand how war, much like in Ukraine today, was impacting innocent children.

The Youth Coordinator will have responsibilities that include:

• Oversee the design, implementation, coordination, and follow-up of youth development initiatives based on approved project plans, objectives, and donor expectations.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and technical assistance to Youth Support Centre staff to enhance the quality and effectiveness of project activities.
• Develop and maintain yearly, quarterly, and monthly implementation plans while regularly reviewing progress against project indicators and expected results.
• Establish and strengthen coordination with relevant government departments, partner organizations, academic institutions, community representatives, and other stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
• Ensure all project activities are implemented in accordance with organizational procedures, donor compliance requirements, safeguarding policies, and applicable national regulations.
• Track project performance, identify gaps and risks, recommend practical solutions, and support timely improvement measures.
• Prepare comprehensive project reports, activity updates, case studies, success stories, lessons learned, and other required program documents.
• Assist in planning and conducting youth-focused trainings, workshops, awareness sessions, community activities, and skills development programs.
• Encourage active youth involvement and promote principles of inclusion, leadership, gender equality, disability consideration, and protection across all interventions.
• Carry out regular monitoring visits to Youth Support Centres, provide technical guidance, coordinate with MEAL and operational teams, maintain stakeholder relationships, and complete other duties assigned by the Project Manager or senior leadership.

Job Requirment

• Applicants should hold a university degree in a relevant field such as Economics, Business Administration, International Development, Social Sciences, or a similar discipline, with at least five years of professional experience in related roles.
• Candidates must have previous experience leading humanitarian or development projects, preferably involving youth programs, migration support, protection services, or emergency assistance.
• Ability to manage the full project cycle, including activity planning, implementation supervision, progress tracking, and evaluation, particularly in complex operational environments.
• Practical understanding of financial oversight, donor compliance standards, and coordination with internal departments including finance, procurement, and human resources.
• Proven capacity to build productive partnerships with government bodies, international organizations, NGOs, UN agencies, and community-level stakeholders.
• Experience in managing teams, providing guidance to staff, developing team capacity, and maintaining effective workplace relationships.
• Knowledge of participatory community approaches, including beneficiary identification, feedback and accountability systems, and protection measures.
• Experience with digital monitoring, data gathering, and reporting platforms such as KoboToolbox, SurveyMonkey, and Google Forms.
• Strong ability in preparing reports, delivering presentations, facilitating trainings, managing budgets, and completing tasks within strict deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills in English, Dari, and Pashto, along with a clear understanding of Afghanistan’s cultural, social, and political environment.
