Key responsibilities of WATSAN Team Leader:

    Key Responsibilities & Operational Duties:

    • Activity Planning & Supervision:
      • Formulate weekly team action plans for line manager approval, anticipating requirements for human resources, stock materials, administrative clearances, and logistical arrangements (transportation and communication).
    • Project Assessment & Engineering Design:
      • Assist in identifying prospective intervention areas and designing operational, human, and financial resource allocations.
      • Participate in field diagnostics, needs assessments, and the production of technical documentation, including Bills of Quantities (BoQs), scopes of work, and engineering drawings.
    • Project Implementation & Field Monitoring:
      • Schedule project operations alongside field teams to meet internal operational milestones.
      • Oversee field implementation to ensure compliance with technical specifications, project deadlines, and organizational standards.
      • Perform routine site monitoring visits, identify operational risks or bottlenecks, and propose adaptive solutions to the Program Manager.
      • Ensure strict security measures for staff and equipment across intervention sites, while maintaining updated operational, logistical, and budget monitoring tools (IOFs).
    • Team Management & Supervision:
      • Assist in recruiting WASH contractors and organize regular team coordination meetings alongside the WASH Deputy Program Manager.
      • Monitor team dynamics, resolve internal conflicts, report training gaps to line management, and facilitate capacity-building sessions.
      • Conduct performance appraisals and manage leave schedules for team members under line manager oversight.
    • Logistics & Administration:
      • Enforce administrative guidelines during daily worker recruitment and monitor the proper use, maintenance, and tracking of field tools.
      • Enforce site safety protocols across all team operations.
      • Inspect the quantity and quality of materials delivered to working sites, ensuring proper receipt and storage.
    • Reporting, Communication & Community Liaison:
      • Attend weekly program meetings and relevant cluster discussions upon request.
      • Maintain up-to-date program files and monitoring archives within the office for supervisor review.
      • Prepare and submit weekly progress reports and contribute to the monthly program reporting package.
      • Build and maintain positive community relations, gather feedback from local actors, and report safety or context-specific issues impacting team operations to management.

Job Requirment

    Education & Experience Requirements:

    • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or WASH and Humanitarian Studies.
    • Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant professional experience in WASH operations or emergency response programs with local or international NGOs.

    Required Technical & Soft Skills:

    • Analytical & Communication: Strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal, report-writing, and communication capabilities, grounded in a solid understanding of humanitarian policies, principles, and standards.
    • Language Proficiency: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, as well as Dari and/or Pashto.
    • Adaptability & Resilience: Demonstrated ability to adapt to diverse field environments and perform effectively under high-pressure conditions.
    • Community Engagement: Practical experience working directly with local communities is considered a distinct advantage.
    • Software & Technical Tools: Proficiency in MS Office, digital data collection tools (e.g., Kobo Toolbox), alongside working knowledge of basic GIS software and AutoCAD.
