After more than 40 years of conflict, Afghanistan remains one of the world’s most complex humanitarian crises, characterised by both urgent and chronic needs. In 2021, the conflict intensified with violence that heavily affected the Afghan population. The IEA (Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan) takeover on August 15th 2021 was a major turning point for the country, with increasing humanitarian challenges.
Job Summary
- - The Nutrition counselor will take part in the implementation, supervision, monitoring and planning of the nutrition services in the Chahar Asyab District, Kabul.
- She will be responsible for the community mobilization and community awareness regarding to the implementation of nutrition activities in the selected areas of the projects
- Activities:
- Conduct counseling for maternal infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN) practices.
- Conduct growth monitoring of all under two years’ children and registering them.
- Conduct anthropometric measurement (weight, height and age), MUAC and check edema of all under five children.
- Classification of all under five children in categories of well nourished, Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) and Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM).
- Determine eligible cases and liase with HF incharge/midwife for distribution of hygiene kits for beneficiaries as agreed.
Key responsibilities of PU-AMI Jobs in Kabul, (Nutrition Counselor):
- Identifying the hygienic messages appropriate to the target population.
- Referring the acutely malnourished children to health facility in-charge director or nurse for the treatment.
- Conduct regular nutrition and hygiene education at health facility
- Food demonstration at health facility
- Preparing the monthly IYCF and GM report
- Coordination with the community screener and community mobilizer for the defaulter tracing and active case finding
- Referring mothers with malnourished children to psychosocial support.
- Providing monthly plan and monthly activities report and submit to health facility in-charge
- Providing monthly health education plan and regular follow up in the health facility.
- Design the chart and tables to setup the follow up the targets and indicators in the health facility.
Job Requirment
- Graduated from 12th grade
- Sensitivity to public health issues
- Willingness to carry out frequent field visits throughout in the provinces
- Good geographical knowledge of Chahar Asyab, Kabul province is an asset
- Good communication skills
- 2 years NGO experience in the same field would be a significant asset
- Knowledge of local languages i.e., Pashto and Dari.
