The Afghan Red Crescent Society plays an important role in providing voluntary services and humanitarian assistance. According to the law and the statutes, the National Society carries out its activities in accordance with its seven principles of philanthropy, impartiality, independence, voluntary service, unity and inclusiveness. Among other things, the National Society is responsible for assisting affected communities, providing emergency shelter and distributing relief items to vulnerable people. Through a network of 7 regional zones and 34 provincial offices, with over 20,000 trained staff and volunteers, in collaboration with national and international organizations, the Afghan Red Crescent Society has managed to maintain its neutrality and has a reputation that enables its teams to carry out principled humanitarian actions across conflict lines, including in large parts of areas controlled by armed opposition groups. It is strengthened by the support of its partners, such as the esteemed International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and other partners.

Key responsibilities of Position Senior Pharmacy Officer (Kabul):

    • Pharmacy Operations & Quality Assurance:
      • Supervise pharmaceutical management across all ARCS healthcare facilities and mobile health teams.
      • Ensure proper storage, handling, dispensing, and implementation of Good Storage Practices (GSP).
      • Enforce compliance with ARCS policies, national pharmaceutical guidelines, and Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) regulations.
    • Supply Chain & Inventory Management:
      • Forecast medicine and supply needs based on consumption trends and health program requirements.
      • Oversee procurement, receipt, inventory control, and distribution to prevent stock-outs or overstocking.
      • Monitor stock movements, track expiry dates, manage damaged items, and coordinate safe disposal processes.
    • Technical Support, SOPs & Training:
      • Provide technical mentorship to pharmacists, assistants, and health facility personnel.
      • Develop and update pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
      • Conduct training sessions focusing on rational drug use, stock management, and pharmaceutical protocols.
    • Monitoring, Data Analysis & Reporting:
      • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual pharmaceutical utilization and inventory reports.
      • Analyze consumption patterns to optimize supply allocations and support donor/management audits.
    • Coordination & Emergency Response:
      • Liaise with facility managers, procurement, logistics teams, MoPH representatives, and humanitarian partners.
      • Support rapid pharmaceutical supply deployments during emergencies, disasters, and humanitarian response operations.

Job Requirment

    • Education & Credentials:
      • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy (Pharm.D / B.Pharm) from a recognized university.
      • Master’s Degree in Pharmacy, Public Health (MPH), or Supply Chain Management is an advantage.
      • Valid professional registration / pharmacy license (where applicable).
    • Work Experience:
      • 5 to 7 years of progressive professional experience in pharmacy management, medical logistics, or pharmaceutical supply chain operations.
      • Prior work experience with humanitarian organizations, INGOs, the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement, or public health programs is highly desirable.
      • Proven experience in managing medical procurement, warehouse operations, stock control, and distribution networks.
    • Technical Knowledge & Skills:
      • Strong expertise in pharmaceutical management principles, essential medicines lists, and public health pharmacy standards.
      • Proficiency in inventory management systems and standard office software (Microsoft Office).
      • Demonstrated capabilities in staff training, mentorship, and capacity building.
      • Excellent analytical, organizational, reporting, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Languages: Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto; strong working knowledge of English (written and spoken).
