The Pediatrician (Child Specialist) will have responsibilities that include:

• Conduct daily rounds in the wards to evaluate patients, monitor their conditions, and review their ongoing health status.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and timely patient documentation, including records related to admissions, transfers, referrals, and discharges.
• Deliver outpatient department (OPD) consultations and services in accordance with the assigned schedule.
• Regularly assess patients’ clinical progress and modify treatment approaches whenever medically indicated.
• Provide immediate assessment and appropriate medical management for emergency cases.
• Carry out emergency medical interventions and minor surgical procedures when necessary and within the limits of professional competence and scope of practice.
• Counsel patients and their families regarding medical conditions, treatment plans, disease management, and preventive healthcare measures.
• Ensure that all required support services are available and properly coordinated during patient care, particularly in cases requiring referral.
• Seek guidance from and coordinate with senior specialists or consultants in complex, critical, or specialized cases.
• Take an active role in clinical activities, including clinical reporting, audits, mortality reviews, and case-based discussions.
• Participate in clinical education activities, presentations, teaching sessions, and ward rounds conducted with visiting consultants.
• Adhere to the duty roster (Rota) established by the Medical/Clinical Director or the authorized representative.
• Provide training and contribute to the capacity development of healthcare personnel, including nurses and midwives, in appropriate pediatric care practices.
• Supervise, guide, mentor, and assess junior staff while identifying their professional development and training requirements.
• Ensure that patient care is delivered in accordance with established clinical protocols, standard-based management practices, and infection prevention and control requirements.
• Provide clinical guidance, teaching, and support to community midwifery students.
• Contribute actively to clinical governance processes and quality assurance activities aimed at improving healthcare standards.
• Provide clinical support to other departments when service requirements necessitate such assistance.
• Undertake night duties in accordance with the approved duty schedule.
• Contribute to the establishment and further development of the Therapeutic Feeding Unit (TFU) and neonatal care services at the district hospital.
• Perform all responsibilities in a manner consistent with AKF’s commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and in compliance with the Safeguarding Policy and PSEAH-related policies.
• Promptly report any suspected or confirmed breaches of Safeguarding and/or PSEAH policies in accordance with the procedures and training provided.

OCCASIONAL SIGNIFICANT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participate in child-health-related health assessments, surveys, research activities, and program evaluations.
• Provide technical advice, information, and reports to program teams and relevant stakeholders whenever required.
• Support community outreach initiatives and activities designed to promote child health.
• Provide additional clinical support during emergencies, disease outbreaks, or periods of exceptionally high patient volume.

DECISION-MAKING & AUTHORITY:

• Exercise professional clinical judgment in diagnosing, treating, and managing pediatric patients within the established scope of professional practice.
• Identify gaps or weaknesses in service delivery and propose appropriate measures for improvement.
• Monitor and oversee the quality and standard of care delivered by the pediatric unit team.
• Determine when complex cases require referral to higher-level healthcare facilities or consultation with specialized medical professionals.
• Contribute to the planning, development, and continuous improvement of pediatric healthcare services.

Job Requirment

• Possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with a recognized specialization in Pediatrics (Child Specialist).
• Have at least four years of relevant professional experience working in EPHS/BPHS hospital environments.
• Demonstrate basic computer literacy, including the ability to use Microsoft Office applications and relevant reporting systems.
• Possess sound clinical knowledge and practical expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric conditions.
• Have a good understanding of applicable national health guidelines, standards, and clinical protocols.
• Be capable of effectively assessing and managing pediatric emergencies and critically ill children.
• Demonstrate fluency in both Dari and Pashto.
• Proficiency in English is considered an additional advantage.
