The Aga Khan Health Services is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) that supports activities in the health field, and manages more than 200 health facilities, including a network of Aga Khan Hospitals.
It works closely with the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and the Aga Khan University (AKU) on planning, training, and resource development, and with the Aga Khan Education Services (AKES) and the Aga Khan Planning and Building Services (AKPBS) on the integration of health issues into specific projects.
With community health programmes in Central and South Asia, as well as East Africa, AKHS is one of the most comprehensive private not-for-profit health care systems in the developing world. It provides curative health care through 237 health centres, dispensaries, hospitals, diagnostic centres and community health outlets to one million beneficiaries and handles 1.2 million patient visits annually.
Building on the Ismaili Community’s health care efforts in the first half of the 20th century, AKHS now provides primary health care and curative care in Afghanistan, India, Kenya, Pakistan, and Tanzania, and provides technical assistance to government in health service delivery in Kenya, Syria and Tajikistan.

Key responsibilities of Nurse:
- Patient Care & Clinical Assistance: Support physicians in delivering high-quality healthcare services, assist with critical blood transfusions following laboratory cross-matching, and provide emergency primary care services.
- Child Health & Nutrition Management: Oversee growth monitoring, accurate recording, and systematic follow-up of malnutrition cases in children under five years old. Implement IMNCI (Integrated Management of Childhood Illness) guidelines and manage the Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT) corner.
- Tuberculosis (TB) Control & DOTS Protocol: Lead case detection, sputum sample collection from suspected cases, and patient registration. Deliver TB treatment under the DOTS regimen, track medication inventories, compile monthly/quarterly reports, and coordinate with Community Health Workers (CHWs) for home-based patient follow-up.
- Infection Control & Hygiene Supervision: Manage and monitor infection prevention protocols across the health facility, oversee chlorine solution preparation, and supervise clinic support staff in maintaining facility cleanliness and sanitation standards.
- Rational Use of Drugs (RUD) & Medication Management: Monitor and enforce the Rational Use of Drugs (RUD) within the assigned department to ensure safe and accurate pharmaceutical administration.
- Mental Health & Disability Services: Conduct screening, counseling, treatment, registration, and referrals for mental health patients and individuals with disabilities in alignment with BPHS guidelines.
- Quality Improvement & Capacity Building: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, attend capacity-building workshops, share acquired knowledge with health center staff, and engage in local health council meetings.
- Professional Conduct & Ethics: Maintain professional integrity, respect local culture, community traditions, and clinic staff, and execute additional tasks assigned by the Clinic Manager.
Job Requirment
- Education: Diploma in Nursing from a recognized medical institute or university.
- Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional nursing experience in hospitals or health clinics, with specific experience in BPHS (Basic Package of Health Services) or EPHS (Essential Package of Hospital Services) implementation.
- Language Proficiency: Fluent in written and spoken Dari (essential).
- Skills: Strong communication skills, compassionate patient care, solid organizational/management capabilities, and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Residency Requirement: This position is strictly open to residents of Bamyan Province.
