Handicap International is an international non-governmental organization. It was founded in 1982 to provide help in refugee camps in Cambodia and Thailand. Headquartered in France and Belgium, since its creation, it has opened branches in six other countries : Switzerland, Luxembourg, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada and the United States. Two French doctors started the charity in 1982 with the goal of assisting those impacted by landmines in refugee camps in Cambodia. The earliest orthopedic clinics were established in camps for refugees in Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Burma. Local teams performed the work, and basic, readily available equipment was employed to deliver timely, efficient, and useful assistance. With the establishment of Handicap International Belgium in 1986, the organization started to expand internationally.

The Health Promoter will have responsibilities that include:

• Assess beneficiaries’ psychosocial needs, capacities, and vulnerabilities through individual and family assessments, including children.
• Develop appropriate action plans and provide safe, respectful, and needs-based mental health and psychosocial support.
• Conduct individual, family, and group psychosocial sessions, awareness activities, and recreational activities.
• Monitor beneficiaries’ progress, follow up on cases, and adjust interventions when necessary.
• Identify cases requiring additional support and refer beneficiaries to appropriate medical, protection, or humanitarian services.
• Maintain accurate and confidential beneficiary records, assessment forms, referral documents, case studies, and daily reports.
• Document protection concerns and promptly report serious or emergency cases to the appropriate supervisor.
• Participate in project meetings, planning, technical follow-up, trainings, and the improvement of psychosocial tools and procedures.
• Work closely with Physiotherapists, Project Officers, hospital staff, and humanitarian partners.
• Provide technical guidance, training, and awareness sessions to relevant staff and partners when required.
• Identify and manage the materials, equipment, and recreational resources required for activities.
• Continuously develop professional knowledge and skills and contribute to improving the quality of rehabilitation and psychosocial services.
• Follow all hygiene, safety, security, child protection, safeguarding, and confidentiality policies and procedures.
• Respect beneficiaries’ privacy, dignity, choices, and right to refuse services, while maintaining professional ethics and impartiality.
• Report any incident, protection concern, or action that may cause harm to beneficiaries or others.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the line manager according to project needs.

• Adhere to professional ethics, neutrality, impartiality, and organizational security procedures.
• Comply with all relevant protection and safeguarding policies.
