The Cook will have responsibilities that include:
1. Meal Preparation and Kitchen Operations:
- Prepare nutritious and balanced meals for office staff and GH residents based on the approved monthly menu.
- Share the monthly menu in advance and coordinate any required changes with the supervisor.
- Have lunch ready for office staff by 12:00 and prepare other meals as needed.
- Consider reasonable dietary needs, allergies, and cultural or religious requirements communicated by staff.
- Maintain proper standards for food preparation, cooking, presentation, and serving.
- Ensure drinking water is always available in refrigerators and common areas.
- Assist with meal preparation for meetings, trainings, official events, and visitors when required.
- Monitor gas cylinders and report refilling needs or safety concerns to the supervisor.
2. Food Safety and Hygiene:
- Maintain high standards of personal hygiene, food safety, and kitchen cleanliness at all times.
- Keep the kitchen, storage areas, utensils, equipment, tables, and appliances clean and organized.
- Wash dishes and clean kitchen areas after use. Regularly clean refrigerators, water filters, ovens, and other equipment as needed.
- Store food properly to prevent spoilage and contamination.
- Check the quality, freshness, and expiry dates of food supplies before use.
- Immediately report any damaged, expired, or unsafe food items to the supervisor.
3. Stock Management and Procurement:
- Prepare cost estimates and propose meal prices for the supervisor’s approval.
- Collect meal contributions from staff and keep clear records of all collections and expenses.
- Purchase food ingredients and kitchen supplies according to the approved menu and budget.
- Keep receipts and required supporting documents in line with PIN procedures.
- Use funds efficiently and minimize unnecessary food waste.
4. General Duties:
- Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and safe.
- Assist staff with reasonable kitchen-related requests when needed.
- Promptly report equipment problems, safety hazards, food safety concerns, or shortages of supplies.
- Provide temporary support or cover for colleagues when requested by the supervisor.
- Perform other duties related to the position as assigned by the supervisor.
- Follow PIN policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements at all times.
Job Requirment
- Completed education up to at least Grade 12.
- 3–5 years of practical experience in cooking.
- Skilled in preparing a wide range of dishes.
- Able to communicate clearly and interact well with others.
- Capable of keeping the kitchen clean and well maintained.
- Maintains good personal hygiene and ensures food, kitchen utensils, and equipment are kept clean and hygienic.
