Benefits of the RTP Scholarship

The successful applicant will benefit from the Australian Government RTP International Scholarship as follows:

  • Stipend: $40,109 per annum (2024 rate), indexed annually
  • Tuition Fees: Full coverage
  • Overseas Health Cover: Included
  • Relocation Allowance: Up to $1,250 for travel to Sydney and return
  • Thesis Allowance: Up to $420 for Master’s candidates, up to $840 for Doctoral candidates
  • Concurrent Awards: Allowed if the total benefit is less than 75% of the RTP stipend

 

Requirements for the Australian Government RTP Scholarship

Following a set of eligibility criteria that each applicant should meet before applying to the RTP Scholarship:

  • Applicants should be international students at the time of awarding.
  • The Scholarship holders should enroll in a full-time postgraduate research degree. Depending on visa conditions, the University of Sydney may approve a part-time Scholarship under exceptional circumstances beyond the student’s control.
  • Applicants should apply for RTP Scholarships at the time of their admission application to their Higher Degree Research Course.
  • Candidates should start or enroll in postgraduate research.
  • Demonstrate outstanding academic achievement record and research potential.
  • Received an unconditional admission offer or be currently enrolled in a master’s by research or Ph.D. at the University of Sydney.

 

Selection Criteria

Australian Government awards the RTP Scholarship to the successful applicants based on the following:

  • Applicant’s academic merit
  • Research experience of the candidate
  • Availability of high-quality research resources and environment
  • Supervisory arrangements availability to support the candidature.

Preference may go to applicants who:

  • Are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders, as per the University of Sydney policy
  • Those who have not previously received an Australian Government or University Scholarship for an HDR course at the same level.

  • Completed application form for the research degree.
  • Academic achievement evidence
  • Evidence of publications, output in the arts or music, professional experience
  • English Language Scores Only for Admission (TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE)
