The application for the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign Innovation Fellowship 2025-2026 opens on May 15, 2024. The Biodesign Innovation Fellowship is a ten-months program that provides aspiring innovators with the tools they need to identify critical medical needs, develop novel health technologies to meet those needs (such as medical devices, digital health, diagnostics, drug delivery, and biotechnology solutions), and prepare to integrate those products into patient care via start-up, corporate, or other channels. The Stanford Biodesign Innovation Fellowship participants are trained in the repeatable, successful Biodesign innovation process for discovering, developing, and implementing novel health innovations. The Innovation Fellows also become members of the Stanford Biodesign community, a global network of innovators driven by a desire to improve healthcare.

1. What are your long-term goals in relation to the Stanford Biodesign Innovation Fellowship? What do you plan to do with your training after the fellowship? (maximum of 300 words)
2. Everyone has taken a unique path to their current position in life. Tell them about some of the difficulties and roadblocks you’ve encountered. What impact did these events have on the person you are today? (maximum of 300 words)
3. Consider yourself the company’s founder, putting a game-changing health technology to the test in anticipation of regulatory approval. Your investors anticipate that the regulatory filing will be completed within a few weeks, and both time and money are limited. The most recent results of your clinical trial are encouraging, and your technology is safe and effective. A closer look reveals that majority of the study’s participants are Caucasian men from similar socioeconomic backgrounds. The issue you seek to resolve affects all genders, people of all races and socioeconomic backgrounds, and people of all sexes. What is your reaction? (maximum of 300 words)
There are numerous ways to contribute to a team, such as organizing, leading, conducting extensive research, developing original ideas, performing rapid prototyping, and/or fostering team cohesion. Tell them about the 2 to 3 team roles you’re most likely to play in no more than two minutes. Upload the video to Vimeo or YouTube instead of including it with your application materials (they advise using the “unlisted” option to prevent your recording from being found publicly). They request this because your video will be reviewed separately from the rest of your application materials and by multiple reviewers.
